2. Usage procedures

2.4. Scanning

2.4.1. Entering the scanning procedure

This procedure is started by selecting the SCAN option from the key profile data loading menu.

After selecting this function, the following initialization processes will be performed automatically:

  • basing,
  • quick test of the measuring probe,
  • check for the presence of the key in the scanning unit.

A detailed description of the initial processes can be found in chapter 2.3. Axis movement functions.

2.4.2. Starting scanning

After completing the processes that initiate the scanning procedure, the machine will set the position to facilitate the mounting of the original key and a corresponding message will be displayed.

The original key must be installed according to the instructions in chapter 1.4. Scanning unit. Selecting NEXT will start the scanning process.

Warning

If a key is detected in the scanning unit during the initialization process, the scanning process will start automatically. It is not recommended that the user place the original key in the scanning unit before the machine requests it, but the software allows this possibility.

2.4.3. Scanning process

Key profile scanning is a fully automatic process and is performed on both sides of the key without user intervention.

The process begins with an initial check of the key to determine its position and profile dimensions.

If the result is positive, the process automatically proceeds to scanning.

If the measured values are outside the permissible range, a warning will be displayed. You will need to remove the key from the scanning unit and confirm the warning. The machine will then check that the requested operation has been performed and return to the menu allowing you to reinsert the original key.

The entire scanning process usually takes about 1 minute (this time depends mainly on the dimensions and shape of the key profile).

Warning

Each original key to be scanned must be thoroughly cleaned with a brush and extraction gasoline. Otherwise, the protective function of the measuring plate may be activated. Such situations should be avoided as they carry the risk of damaging the measuring plate and obtaining incorrect scanning results.

2.4.4. Operations after the scanning process is complete

When the scanning process is complete, the machine will set the position to facilitate removing the original key from the scanning unit, which should also be done.

At the same time, the function of transmitting scanned data via USB to a computer will be automatically activated - description in chapter 2.7. Communication with PC.

If there is no need to send data to a PC, this process can be omitted.

The next menu displays information about the dimensions of the scanned profile. The following options are available:

  • NEXT - check that the original key has not been left in the scanning unit and proceed to the milling procedure (description in the next chapter).
  • USB[↑] - sending scanned profile data to a PC (useful if automatic transmission has been accidentally omitted) - description in section 2.7. Communication with a PC.
  • CANCEL - cancels the current scanning procedure and returns to the menu that starts a new scanning procedure.

Warning

It is only possible to switch to the milling procedure when there is no key in the scanning unit. Otherwise, a warning will be displayed indicating that action is required by the user.
