2. Usage procedures

2.5. Milling

2.5.1. Entering the milling procedure

The milling procedure starts when the key profile data is stored in the device memory and the user completes the scanning or receiving data from the PC by selecting the NEXT option.

The procedure can only be continued if there is no key in the scanning unit, which is checked each time the unit is activated.

This procedure begins with the display of the first menu with the currently set milling options.

2.5.2. Preview and change milling options

After proceeding to the key profile milling procedure, the control panel screen displays the available milling options along with their currently set values.

These options have been grouped by topic and are presented on two consecutive menu screens:

  • Group one:

    • 1) TYPE

    • 1) SIZE

    • 1) CUTTING

  • Group two:

    • 1) BASE CUTTING

    • 1) MATERIAL

    • 1) DEEPENING GROOVES

A detailed description of all options and their impact on the machining process can be found in chapter 2.6. Milling options.

To change the value of a given option, enter edit mode by pressing the CHANGE button. Editing of a given group is finished by pressing the BACK button or by scrolling to the end of the list of options in a given group.

2.5.3. Placing the blank key in the milling unit

After reviewing the available milling options, the machine automatically sets the milling unit to a position that facilitates the installation of the blank key.

The blank key must be installed according to the procedure described in chapter 1.5. Milling unit. After installation, confirm by pressing the NEXT button.

2.5.4. Measuring the blank key

The measurement is performed automatically. During this process, the machine uses a rotating cutter to determine the position and dimensions of the blank key.

After the measurement is complete, the following is displayed on the screen:

  • dimensions of the key profile to be milled,
  • measured dimensions of the blank key.

Depending on the results obtained, two scenarios are possible:

  • The blank key is sufficient for making a complete profile:

    • the machine will start an automatic countdown and after 3 seconds will proceed to the next stage
    • if it is necessary to stop the process, press the STOP button. To continue, press the START button.
    • The blank key is too small to make a complete profile:

    • a warning message will appear on the screen informing you of this fact

    • to continue milling, press the START button.

The machine then proceeds to the actual process of milling the key profile.

2.5.5. Milling process

Key profile milling is a fully automatic process and is performed on both sides of the key without the need for user intervention.

The control panel display shows the current progress and the estimated time of completion of the operation.

The process is stopped when the STOP button is pressed or the milling socket cover is opened. In this situation, the following options are available:

  • RESUME - resume process,
  • BREAK - brakes the process.

Warning

When the machine is stopped, it is not permitted to move or remove the blank key from the milling socket. This may result in damage to the milling cutter!

2.5.6. Finishing the milling

After the milling process is complete, the machine will automatically set the milling unit in a position that facilitates the removal of the blank key, which must be removed from the milling slot and confirmed on the control panel.

Next, a message will appear with information about the number of copies made of a given profile and a question whether to make another copy or end the procedure.

Tip

The milling option settings are only reset when you return to the welcome screen. This allows you to quickly make multiple copies of the same profile without having to reset the parameters. If you need to change them, select BACK when the machine displays a message to insert a new blank key.
